-Project 1-

Project 1. e-Pharmacovigilance:
Integrating Patient Reports of Side Effects with Electronic Health Records for Surveillance of Recently Approved Drugs

The safety of prescription drugs, in particular drugs recently approved for use by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), is an ongoing concern.

Interactive Voice Response (IVR) technology offers a systematic, real-time, cost-effective way of contacting large numbers of patients to assess adherence, medication related symptoms, and adverse drug events (ADEs).

The goals of this project are to:
     • develop an IVR-based e-pharmacolvigilance system         that interoperates with a patient's electronic health         record (EHR) to actively monitor patients taking         recently FDA-approved drugs, and provide education         about medication management
     • implement this prototype
     • assess the translation and dissemination of the system.
